Wilfred John Pearson (b. August 19, 1896, d. December 21, 1959)

One of Walgett's and the North West's best known personalities passed away in Newcastle Hospital as 1959 drawing to a close.
Second youngest of the well known Pearson family of this area, Wilfred John Pearson passed away at the age of 63 years after a long illness.
as an extremely young man he enlisted in 1914 and it is interesting to note that he was a member of the "Wallabies" a force of men who originated at Goodooga and marched to gunnedah gathering recruits for the A.I.F on its way.
Upon discharge in 1919 Wilf returned to Wallett and Worked at many and various jobs including station work, the shearing industry, horse breaking and taxi driving.
In the mid 1930's he married Miss Florance Rivett, a daughter of another well known Walgett family and the union was blessed by two daughters and two sons, Mrs Lionel Newton of Cumborah, Mrs Eric Hirst of dungog and sons George and John of Wallett.
When the Walgett R.S.L. Club was first formed the late Wilf Pearson was appointed the Club's first steward, carrying out his duties faithfully and well until illness forced his retirement from that position.
