Thomas Pearson (b. January 19, 1817, d. March 01, 1859)
Notes for Thomas Pearson:
Thomas Pearson, son of Thomas and Sarah Pearson of Rotherithe, a London dockside suburb, was born on 19/1/1817 and was 19yrs of age when he was tried at the London Central Criminal Court on 4/4/1836 on a charge of stealing clothes.Thomas was a carpenter's boy, a Protestant, was single and could read and had no previous convictions. He was 5' 2 3/4" tall, had a ruddy complexion, light brown hair and dark hazel eyes and "particular marks and scars" were shown as "nose a little crooked, small raised mole back of left side neck, blue ring middle finger right hand, J upper left arm, blue dot back of left hand".Thomas received a sentence of seven yrars for his crime and was transported to the Colony of New South Wales on the "Moffatt" which arrived at Port Jackson on 30/8/1836.
Nothing is known of Thomas untill the early 1840's when he is supposed to have married Ann Sarah Hayhoe at Maitland.Date of marriage is given as 1/8/1941 on the birth registration papers of their fourth daughter at Rylstone on 1/4/1857 and Ann Sarah's place of birth is shown as Cambridgeshire, England. No particulars of Ann's earlier life are known at this stage except that her age at 1857 was 32years.Thomas was granted a Ticket of Leave during 1843.
The first child born to Thomas and Sarah was supposedly George William in 1842 but this has been proved to be incorrect.Church of England records for Maitland show in fact that on 25/9/1842 George William (born 12/7/1842), was baptised as the son fo James Hayhoe, Brickmaker, Lochinvar and Anne Hayhoe. At this point it appears that James and Anne were Ann Sarah's parents and that Anne had died and that Ann Sarah and Thomas had decided to raise George William with the Pearson surname. This has yet to be confirmed.
On 15/3/1844 Amy was born to Thomas and Ann Sarah ot Lochinvar. On 20/1/1847 their second daughter, Charlotte Jane , was also born at Lochinvar. The next child born was Susan in 1850 but excact date and place of birth is not yet known. The same applies to Thomas , born in 1854.
On 23/9/1855 a further son was born to Thomas and Ann Sarah, this time at Jerrys Plains, westward of Singleton. It is though that at this time Thomas was conducting a carrying service between Maitland and points westward. However, by the end of 1855 Thomashad resumed his trade of carpentary and had taken up residence at Louee( now Lue) a short distance from mudgee.Their latest son was baptised Alfred on 1/12/1855 at St. John the Baptist , Mudgee.
Their seventh child was the daughter whose birth was registered at Rylstone in 1857 when Thomas resided at "Morrison's sheep station ".The last child born to Thomas and Ann Sarah was another daughter on 23/3/1858 at Cooyal Creek, east of Gulgong. The child was baptised ann Sarah and her registration papers gave the occupation of Thomas as carpenter and confirmed that the child born the previous year had died.
On 28/9/1858 the death is recorded at Mudgee of James Hayhoe, aged 50, carrier.Regrettably, no particulars are provided as to family connections.
On 1/3/1859 Thomas Pearson died at Cooyal Creek and was buried there on 3/3/1859.Cause of death was indicated as being "general debility" but family sources claim that anthrax poisoning was involved.
Ann Sarah was married in the Church of st Johnthe Baptist, Mudgee on 7/8/1860 to Michael Hoyce, a widower, who also resided at Cooyal and was a labourer. It is not presently known when or where either Ann Sarah or Michael died.
During the next few years Ann Sarah gave her consent to the marriage of Any and Charlotte Jane.On 27/4/1861 Amy married John Price in the church of St John the Baptist , Mudgee.John was described as a carrier and "the usual place of residence" for each party was shown as Cooyal Creek.A son was born to John and Amy of "Keenes Flat", Cooyal on 14/8/1861 and he was baptised John Thomas at St John the Baptist , Mudgee, on 27/9/1861.a daughter Elizabeth Mary, was born on 16/6/1863.
