Victor Linwood Melvin Worthing (b. November 05, 1879, d. December 1964)
Victor Linwood Melvin Worthing (son of Arnold F. Worthing and Emma Jane Brown) was born November 05, 1879 in Clinton, Maine, and died December 1964 in South Portland, Maine.He married Phyllis Irene Thomas on October 16, 1917 in Benton, Maine, daughter of Fraser Miles Thomas and Effie Adelaide Grant. Worthing, 85, of Black Point Road, formerly of 19 Gerry Ave, South Portland, a retired baking company employee, died Thursday in a Portland Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Worthing was born Nov. 5, 1879, at Clinton, son of Arnold and Emma Brown Worthing, and was educated in the Clinton schools. He came to Portland as a young man and was employed by Cushman Baking Co., for 20 years, retiring 10 years ago. He was a charter member of the Thornton Heights Methodist Church and a member of its Men's Club. His wife, the former Phyllis Thomas, died in 1958. Surviving are three sons, Arnold F., of South Portland, Grant W., of Scarborough with whom he made his home and Thomas V., also of Scarborough; two daughters, Mrs. Richard S. (Janice) Beety of Scarborough, and Mrs. Paul E. (Joyce) Chadbourne of Danvers, Mass., 15 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at 749 Congress St., with interment in Brooklawn Memorial Park. Member of the Loyal Temperance Legion, signed Nov. 17th, 1892, Kennebec division. Pledge: I hereby solemnly promise, with God's help, to abstain from the use of alcoholic drinks as a beverage, including wine, beer and cider, from the use of tobacco in any form, and from profanity. October 25, 1916, Victor and Arthur Glazier bought a cash register. Sales receipt signed by them and includes payments made.
