|My family of Penningtons are descended from Paul PENNINGTON of Sunbreak, Parish of Aldingham, Furness district of North Lancashire, England. He was a contemporary of George Fox the founder of the Quaker faith. The first in the family to come to America was their 19yo son Daniel who settled in Pennsylvania in 1713. This line of Penningtons, of the Quaker faith until my granfather, is listed as Group 3, on the Pennington Research Associations website.|
I am also researching the MENEFEE family. The progenitor of the family is thought to be a George MINIFEE arriving on the ship Samuel in 1623. Although the connection to George is not clear, most of the rest of the Menefees descend from one of the four brothers: William Jr b.1720-1725 in Virginia d.12/1797 in Knox Co. Tennessee, Gerrard b.1721 in Montgomery Co. Virginia d. July 3, 1811 in Lincoln Co. Kentucky, Jonas b. 1726 in Culpepper Co. Virginia d.1782-1783 in Culpepper Co. Virginia, John b.unk d. October 1765. My branch of the Menefees can be traced back to Gerrard. His decendants, with roots in both Virginia and Kentucky, then migrated to Texas in the early 1800's.
My grandmother was a Hanson, arriving on Ellis Island in the early 1900s. She met my Grandfather, working as a nurse in a hospital where he was recovering from wounds received during World War 1.
Any questions or info on the above would be welcomed.
