Family lore and other lies of the Perdue's and Yocom'sUpdated March 6, 2005 | As the “old maid” in the family I have chosen not to have children.Strangely enough, this has caused me to leave something behind for the rest of my family and that is combining the family history as best as I can.Thank god the internet! The reason why I started this process was because I was told that we had Irish in the family somewhere. As a travel agent, I was going to Ireland and thought I should see what I could do to find out where we came from in Ireland.Well, bottom line: I must be the only person in America that DOESN’T have any Irish in me!However, as you can see here our John Brown was rumored to be called: “John Brown the Irishman”.But I am stuck on finding out anymore then that/ Funny things happen when you do your ancestry:you find out that family lore is exaggerated.Like I was told we have Cherokee in us, however, doing more research I found out that Nancy Rose’s father was from Cherokee County and was the leader in the Cherokee eradicator movement. Not so good. Of course, there was the relation to John Brown the Abolitionist.Welp, that was easy to find out pretty quickly that we were not.Even those many a cousin has done book reports proudly. And even more crazy then all the other things I have found out, my ancestry goes back to 1450!Crazy. |
