Looking for information on Henry E. Perry, 'German immigrant' around 1862, appoximately age 17, joined the Union Army 'not long' after his arrival in the US, lost his arm shortly after that and was honorably discharged. He was married in Iowa on July 4th, 1868 though the county is not legible.Sarah Adelia Chapman is the wife. This original Certificate of Marriage (printed form) was from Des Moines.L.J. Byrd listed as authority.Relatives searching into this over the past decade or so have not been able to locate his information for place of birth and German roots.I believe he referred to himself as 'Black Dutch' though specifically not the Pennsylvania group. It also could be he had lived around the Black Forest of Germany.I have a photo in the early 1900's of a huge crate from Frankfurt, perhaps something his son ordered for his business.I 'think' he was an only child and maybe an orphan (both parents deceased)though not positive about the orphan part. His birth date could be 6 June 1847 or approximately that date in case some old records are incorrect. One child reached adulthood from this marriage. He died in OK in 1909, might have lived in Kansas before moving to Oklahoma, deceased relatives said he had lived in Illinois. Any suggestions are welcome as I continue to search Census records, etc.,looking for him.I have a lot of old documents, letters, photos, etc. of some family members. Happy researching! | |
