| Matthias House (Haas) arrived in the US Sept 22, 1752 on the Ship Brothers in the port of Philadelphia, PA. He married Nov 20, 1752 Margaretha Jaeckler at St. Michael's & Zion Church in Philadelphia and headed south to the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia where he is found living in Shenandoah County in 1763. Adam, the first son, was born in Shenandoah County. By 1771 Matthais had moved on the East side of the Blue Ridge Mountains where he purchased land known as House Hollow. The deed is recorded in Culpeper, VA Deed Book G page 249. House Hollow is located about 2 1/2 miles SW of SLate Mills on Rt 704. The house is a two story L-shapped frame dwelling. Among its orginial features are some hand blown glass window panes, old pine beams, 3 chimneys, black walnut stair rail and newel post, a mantel that came from Germany and an arched fanlight surmounts the front door. Among the tall pines that stand as an island in a field of green, is the House cemetery. It has only two headstones, Aaron House and his wife Rebecca Biedler House. Many of our House relatives are buried in the House graveyard. I have created a House website at myfamily.com with lots of pictures, files and a researcher's email list. Please email to access this page. |
