John Hallum Bowen - Original 1st LT Infantry 4th Regiment SC, enrolled at Pendleton 14 April 1861, age 22.Re enrolled C/4 SC BN at reorganization 21 Apr 1862.Promoted to Captain 13 June 1862, transferred to Company K 16 Nov 1862, present for duty until WIA and POW Wauhatchie 28 Oct 1863. Sick in hospital Atlanta as of 28 Sept 1863, sent via Camp Chase to Johnson's Island, arriving ca 15 Nov 1863, sent to Fortress Monroe for exchange 6 Oct 1864, suffering from eriestertis, exchanged 11 Oct 1864, arrived Richmond 15 Oct 1864, sick furlough to SC 15 Oct-Dec 1864, submitted resignation late March 1864, endorsed by General Gary and approved by General Lee 24 Mar 1865, remained with company and paroled Appomattox, commanding company. Treasurer, Pickens County 1881-1884, SC House of Representatives 1884-85, 1889-90. Brother of Samuel H. Bowen Company D and Robert E. Bowen Col, 2 SC Rifles.Died of cancer 15 Jan 1903, buried Georges Creek Baptist Church, near Easley.
