Currently researching Hicks family most likely of Cherokee and/or Choctaw descent possibly related to Gov. Thomas Holliday Hicks of Md. Recent research also adds Osage bloodline on maternal grandfather's mother. They fled the "Trail of Tears" and hid in Va. New research shows that my grandfather may have been born in New York City or close suburbs and moved to Orange Cty, Va at very young age.My grandfather moved from Orange County Va to Sparrows Point , Md to work in the steel mill around WWI. Also researching German family in Md, and Phillips family from Poland in Pa, and Texas. Family names in that line are Tsarlovski, Dimoro and other variations. I have documentation on almost all of the persons in the these lines since late 1800's. some consist of family bible entries, most are copies of birth and death certificates, military service info etc. My current brick wall is in the Hicks line due to the secrecy concerning their native american origins. I have tried to get the land records of the sale of the family farm in Orange County in the early 1950's but have never received any replies from the county offices. It appears the Jack R. Hicks, my grandfather, would have signed the papers as his father's only heir. This may be incorrect. Any help would be appreciated....Of course I'm willing to share......... | Hicks-German-Phillips Page Updated September 11, 2000 |
