| I became interested in my family lineage approximately one year ago. I started with my maternal grandmother's line, Edwards, and have been 'hooked' since then. I am going to take a 'leap' and post my family tree, but please forgive my mistakes, as I am sure there are plenty! This tree will continually be a 'work in progress' as I see no end to it, but I am anxious to share with my family members the opportunity to see what I have begun. I have been extremely blessed to have such a wonderful family. Growing up, I had the best parents a child could have. My father, who passed away on August 22, 2004, worked really hard to provide the best for his family. But the most important thing he did for my sister and I was to convey he loved us unconditionally. That love has given us the confidence we have needed many times when life has been pretty rough. When he first started his 50 year career with Roger Milliken (now Milliken & Company) he worked 3 different 'shifts'. When he worked the 3rd shift, he wanted us to wake him up so he could watch 'American Bandstand' as he LOVED MUSIC and music was always a constant part of our lives. His mother, (my 'Big Mama') taught my sister and I how to dance, and back in those days, you didn't see a grandmother dancing to "At the Hop"!! We have such wonderful memories of him being at home with us, constantly playing tricks on us, watching 'American Bandstand',always having a jigsaw puzzle in progress on the dining room table, playing badmitton, watching TV together and he and I never missed 'Shock Theatre' on Saturdays. (Not that everyting was 'rosey', he made sure we were disiplined and we knew how to 'mind'! Even when he wasn't around, all it took was for our mother to say: "I'm gonna' tell your Daddy!" We all laughed a whole lot. Now it is really hard to laugh without him. We miss him so. Thankfully, our mother is still with us but she isn't the same without our daddy. I have never seen two people so much in lovefor all those years. She was the best mother in the world when we were growing up. She taught us to believe in ourselves and also gave us that confidence that only comes from being so loved. I guess I now know that it is a 'false confidence' because, no matter how fat I get, I still feel pretty, and no matter that myhusband left me for other women, I still feel he is the one who has lost, not me, and I think no matter how poor I am now and he is rich, that I am still MUCH happier without him! Well I guess I am thankful for that 'false confidence'!! |
