The Walter McGee Oxford Family.Salisbury, WiltshireUpdated May 22, 2006
|This is my family research so far.|
It all started with my Grandfather Walter McGee Oxford.
Born 1891 in Salisbury Wiltshire. He lived with many foster carers in Dorset. He was orphaned to Standon Boys Home in Stafford, he stayed there until he was fourteen then went to work as a garden boy for a family in Doxy in Stafford.
His mother who had many other unwanted childre came from a very large family. Her name was Mary Ann Oxford and she was born in Salisbury Wilshire. Her father was Alexander Oxford and he came from Blandford Forum, Dorset. Her mother also Mary Oxford nee Gilbert came form Salisbury.
My Grandfather served in in the First World War, he was Mentioned in Dispatched and was awarded the Belgium Croix de Guerr. He married Sarah Luff and had one boy Walter George Lional Oxford. Sarah died of Cancer and my Grandfather remarried some time later to Phylis May Boult and they had two girls Prudence Helen and Sylvia May.
My Granfather died in 1977 at the grand old age of 86. He was a lovely man who was liked by everyone, I just wish he was here today to tell me more about his life.
