I am researching my family, most of whom originate in the parish of Santa Cruz in the village of Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel, Açores.The following were my grandparent's surnames:
*Pimentel ( and de Brum)
*De Medeiros Teotonio
*Bernardo-Andrade - from Nossa Senhora do Rosario, Lagoa
I am also researching my wife's family, most of whom originate in the parish of Santissima Trinidade, in the village of Capelo, on the island of Faial, Açores.The following were her grandparent's surnames:
*de Sousa - from Fajã da Ovelha, Calheta, Madeira
*de Vargas Martins

These are Robin's great-grandparents.They were born in Faial, but married July 3, 1915 at Saint Anthony's Church in Taunton, Massachusetts.

These are my great-great grandparents.(They are my grandmother -- Gloria Bernardo Andrade's maternal grandparents. They were born c. 1845.They had eight children.

In this photo, my mother (third from the left in the middle) and her sister and brothers prepare the necessary items required for the "killing of a pig."The matanca was both social and practical.Family and friends gathered for the occasion AND everything in the pig was used for sustenance...morcela, linguica, chourico, carne do porco, etc...
