I am researching The Klein Family, Adam is the oldest known relative.
Adam Klein was born in 1798 in Germany, He had ten children from two wives, (The wives were twins).
Martin Klein was born to the second wife, (Anna Marie Kresz, born 1800 in Germany),at Gundersweiler, Germany in the current Rheinland-Pfaltz (Rhein Bavaria). It is a small town located about 18 miles N.E. of Kaiserlautern in the former Bayerische Pfaltz... He wove cloth, linen toweling, etc., while he was in Germany.
Martin arrived in New York on July 2, 1866 on the Steamer Barvaria which sailed from Hamburg, Germany. It was a small ship being only 2235 tons compared to the former Steam Ship U.S. which was 54,000 tons. Regardless of the ships small size they really packed the the passengers in.
Martin Klein's location on lthe ship was in between deck class which carried 602 passengers. The total for the ship was 810 passengers, the rest being in cabin class. Between deck class is also known as steerage, which is for the passengers who travel at the lowest rate.
Martin came to this country shortly before the war of 1866 was declared in Germany and which was right after the end of the Civil War in the U.S. so he was not a soldier.
When he came to this country he came to the home of his oldest sister Elizabeth, wife of Henry Nuz Sr., who was living on their farm one mile northeast of Beechwood, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, later known as the Charles Kelling farm. He worked in that vicinity until his marriage with Mary Regina Weischuch, who was known as the prettiest girl around at that time.
The James Thomas Piper Family, living in Manitowoc Cty, WI in the early to mid 1800's. Jame's son, George Washington Piper, eventually moved to Kelly Brook, Oconto Cty., WI in 1888 and farmed until his death. The farm is still in the Piper family.
All information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
