Pitts and Robeson Ancestral Lineages of T. Lawrence Pitts II
Pitts and Robeson Ancestral Lineages of T. Lawrence Pitts IIUpdated May 17, 2003
The PITTS lineage began a follows: Back in mid-October of 1999, I came across a FamilySearch [LDS site] posting of a pedigree which contained my father, the oldest of his siblings, and his next two brothers ... clearly based on some 1917 document (several folks listed as died "after 1917" when they must have appeared in some record). It was posted by a Lisa Berry of Renton, WA. That pedigree is currently (May, 2003) posted at: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/AF/individual_record.asp?recid=28786376&lds=0®ion=-1®ionfriendly=&frompage=99 and extended the lineage of my ggrandfather, Rufus Harmon Pitts, up two more generations to Harrison Pitts and Henry Pitts (b. 2 Jan 1796, d 23 Aug 1859).All of these folks were born and died in Winston Salem, NC (which was same town in which my dad was born).Henry was shown as having married a Susanna Payne (b. 1798, d. Feb 1868). Subsequently I was able to find a tree posted on my-ged.com by a sixth cousin of mine (who lives in the western area of Winston-Salem near Clemmons, NC.): Ann Burton Sheets Bernard,([email protected]).It contained the entire lineage from Nicholas Pitt right down to (what was apparently) the Harrison and Henry Pitts just mentioned. She had Susanna Payne spelled Susanna Paine, but that seemed a not unreasonable discrepancy. It's from Ann's information that I've got the upper generations.Having discussed the situation with Ann back in Oct 99, we agreed that overlapping Henry & Harrison were the same folks, and she added to her posting the Pitts's (I knew from our family records) which followed those two.Her pedigree of Rufus Harmon Pitts is online at: http://www.my-ged.com/db/page/sheets/4600 There is much work still to be done to actually *prove* the connections in my own lineage from our earliest immigrants to the New World back to their respective ancestors in England. It is also during this time frame that the original name PITT is apparently tranformed into PITTS. -------------- The ROBESON lineage is for the most part based on the following published genealogy:History & general account of Andrew Robeson of Scotland, NJ & PA, & of his descendants, 1653-1916, by Robeson, Stroud & Osborne. 776p.1916. This book is still (as of 17 May 2003) available in a one-off, build-to-order basis from the Higginson Book Company for $109.00. Go to http://www.higginsonbooks.com/ and look under ROBESON in their genealogical offerings for the item in question. -------------- Any additions or corrections, questions or comments are greatly appreciated.
