Orville Glen Poe took his family to Weld County, Colorado in about 1905 and homesteaded there.
On January 14, 1909, Orville G Poe was issued a land patent certificate by President Theodore Roosevelt according to an Act of Congress on April 24, 1820 for sale of public lands and signed by the Recorder of the Land Patent Office in Denver, Colorado.Certificate #18565 described the real estate as "The north half of the southeast quarter of Section twenty-three in Township four north of Range fifty-nine west of the Sixth Principal Meridian, Colorado, containing eighty acres."
The 1910 Wiggins Township, Morgan County, Colorado census registers Glen E Poe, age 28, his occupation listed as farmer of a general ranch, born in Missouri, his parents in the United States; Emma J, age 21, she and her parents born in Missouri; Raymond, age 2; and Paul, age 2 month, both born in Colorado.The report indicates the couple had been married for seven years and they owned their ranch; their mother tongue was English and they could both read and write.
The 1920 Wiggins Township, Morgan County, Colorado census registers Orvill G Poe, age 39, his occupation listed as farmer, he and his mother born in Missouri, his father in Virginia; his wife, Imogene F, age 32, she and her parents born in Missouri; Raymond, age 11; Issac P, age 9; Cecil V, age 7; Thelma P, age 3; and Eva G, age 10 months; all born in Colorado
The 1930 Wiggins Township, Morgan County, Colorado census registers Orville J Poe, age 49, he and his mother born in Missouri, his father in Virginia; his occupation listed as farmer; Imogene F, age 42, she and her parents born in Missouri; Paul I, age 20, his occupation listed as school bus driver; Cecil V, age 18; Thelma P, age 13; Eva J, age 11, Justus L, age 9; Earl V, age 5; and Ruth M, age 1; all born in Missouri.The report indicates Glen was 22 and Imogene 15 at the time of their marriage.They did not own a radio.
In later years Glen sold his farm to Ernest. (Source: Minnie Gardner, Ernest's daughter).
The following obituary was published in a Colorado newspaper, date unknown:
Orville G. Poe, 82, Dies In Greeley.Orville Glen Poe, 82, a Morgan County farmer for the past fifty-eight years, died in the Weld County Hospital Thursday at 11:45.Poe was born July 2, 1880 in Scotland County, Missouri.He came to Morgan County about 1905 from Scotland County.
Besides his wife, Imogene, Poe is survived by eight children:Mrs. Thelma Pugh of Weldona, Mrs. Eva Manning of Denver, Mrs. Ruth Yurick of Denver, Henry R. of Eaton, Paul of Denver, Cecil V. of Denver, Leonard J. of West Plains, Missouri and Virgil E. of Colorado Springs.Two sisters, Mrs. Effie Leach and Mrs. Sylvia Israel of Memphis, Missouri, and one brother, Ernest of Fort Morgan also survive. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Cutler-Jolliffe Chapel with Rev. Leon C. Nelson officiating.Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Dies in Colorado.Word has been received here of the death of Glen Poe of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, Thursday in a hospital at Greeley, Colorado.Mr. Poe is a brother of Mrs. Ross Leach and Mrs. Frank Israel of Memphis.Mr. and Mrs. W. A. McWilliam of Memphis, Eugene and Forest Poe and Mrs. Faye Jackson of Downing, nieces and nephews of Mr. Poe, left Friday for Fort Morgan to be there for funeral services.Also surviving is another brother, Ernest of Weldona, Colorado.
The monumentin the Riverside Cemetery in Fort Morgan, Colorado reads: Orville G. 1880-1963; Imogene 1887-1981.An inscription at the top reads: "Together we labored, together we rest."

Notes for HARROLD GLENN POE: This notice was found in the Memphis Reveille dated August 30, 1917:The three year old son of Glen Poe was killed in an automobile accident at Cambridge, Nebraska one day last week.The family was driving in their car to Memphis and the child was struck by a car and died from injuries inflicted.The body was shipped to this county for interment--funeral services being held on Thursday at Richland church.A heart shaped monument at the Richland cemetery reads: Harrold Glenn, son of O.G & Imogene Poe, Feb 17, 1915, Aug 22, 1917. "Our Darling" inscribed on base. |

In about 1906, Ernest left Missouri to Ault, Colorado to work with his uncle Samuel Sidwell (Sid) Poe, who owned a livery stable there.In 1907, he met and married Lola Mae Musser and the same year filed for a homestead northwest of Fort Morgan, Colorado, receiving title in 1910.
On January 6, 1910, Ernest Poe was issued a land patent certificate by President William H Taft according to an Act of Congress on April 24, 1820 for sale of public lands and signed by the Recorder of the Land Patent Office in Denver, Colorado.Certificate #03907 describes the real estate as "The southeast quarter of the southwest quarter of Section twenty-four in Township four north of Range fifty-nine west of the Sixth Principal Meridian, Colorado, containing forty acres."
The 1910 Wiggins Township, Morgan County, Colorado census registers Ernest Poe, age 30 (27), his occupation listed as farmer of a general ranch, born in Missouri, his parents in the United States; his wife, Lily M (Lola), age 20, she and her parents born in Missouri; Harry L, age 22 months, born in Colorado, his parents in Missouri.The report indicates the couple had been married three years, owned their farm; their mother tongue was English and the could both read and write.
The 1920 Wiggins Township, Morgan County, Colorado registers Ernest Poe, age 37, his occupation listed as farmer, he and his mother born in Missouri, his father in Virginia; his wife, Lola May, age 30, she and her parents born in Missouri; Harry Lee, age 11; Margret E. age 8; Francis I, age 6; Pearl Allen, age 3; and Minnie May, age 1.All children were born in Colorado except Pearl (son) who was born in Missouri.The Ernest Poe family lived on the Narrows Road farm adjacent to his brother Orville Glen.
The 1930 Weldona Precinct, Morgan County, Colorado census registers Ernest Poe, age 49, he and his mother born in Missouri, his father in Virginia, his occupation listed as farmer; Lola May, age 40; she and her parents born in Missouri; Harry L, age 21; Margaret, age 18; Francis, age 16; Pearle, age 14; Minnie Mae, age 12; Johnnie, age 9; and Ernest E, age 1; all born in Colorado.The report indicates Ernest was 25 and Lola 18 at the time of their marriage.They did not own a radio.
In 1914 Ernesttook his family back to Missouri to assist in farming his father's farm.Health reasons forced him to return to Colorado to his farm, where he remained until his retirement in 1965.He acquired over 1600 acres of land and cultivated alfalfa, corn and other feed crops.In his later years, he was honored by the Morgan County Realtors Association as the County's Oldest Homesteader.He was active in the community and county activities.
The following obituary was found in the Fort Morgan newspaper dated June 25, 1970:
Ernest Poe, 87, Dies At Hospital.Ernest Poe, eighty-seven, who homesteaded northwest of Fort Morgan sixty years ago, died in the Fort Morgan Hospital at 4:20 a.m. today.Poe was born September 11, 1882 in Memphis, Missouri.He homesteaded here in 1910, retired five years ago and moved into Fort Morgan two years ago.He was a member of the Weldon Valley Board of Education for twenty years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Morgan since 1927.He recently had been named deacon emeritus of the church.
Poe is survived by his wife, Lola May of Fort Morgan; three daughters, Rev. Margaret Poe of Peru, Illinois, Mrs. Frances Faires of Lodi, California, and Mrs. Minnie M. Gardner of Denver; four sons, Rev. Harry L. Poe of Hawthorne, Utah, John of Peoria, Arizona, Ernest of Sharon Springs, Kansas and Pearl A. Poe of Fort Morgan; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.Funeral services were by conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Cutler-Jolliffe Chapel with Rev. Irmal Elliott officiating.Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Passes Away In California.Mrs. J. Frank, Israel (Sylvia Pearl Poe Israel) passes away in Coronado Hospital, Coronado, California, July 12, 1985 in her 100th year, following emergency gallbladder surgery and complications.As she had previously arranged, her body was given to medical research.
A memorial service will be held in Memphis, Missouri later.She is survived by a son and daughter, Rev. Ernest Israel, Honolulu, Hawaii and Rev. Iris Kerr, of Memphis.Memorials in Mrs. Israel's name may be given to the American Cancer Society, Mrs. Vernon Yoder, local chairman; American Heart Association, Phil Duley, local chairman; or Coronado Hospital Nurses Appreciation Fund, Coronado, California.

Memorial Service For Sylvia (Poe) Israel.A memorial service for Sylvia (Poe) Israel, who passed away while vacationing in Coronado, California, on July 12, 1985 will be held at the United Methodist Church in Memphis, on Sunday, August 11, 1985 beginning at 3:30 P.M.The family of Mrs. Israel invites their friends to share with them in the service of thanksgiving for her life.The Rev. Brent Mustoe, pastor of Mrs. Israel, will give the invocation, biography,read a poem, "A Little Parable for Mothers" by Temple Baily, and will pronounce the benediction.Mrs. Israel's son and daughter, Ernest Israel and Iris Kerr, will give the eulogy.Her favorite scripture will be read by her grandchildren.Songs which Mrs. Israel sang to her own children, will be sung by Kay Yost.The church choir will sing, "My God and I" by Sergie, and two favorite Psalms, set to music by her daughter.Accompanist will be Dixie Shalley and Joan Cotton on the organ and piano.Following the service, the United Methodist Women, will serve refreshments in the vestry where all may visit with the family.
