Archibald Allen (b. Abt. 1697, d. December 31, 1758)
Archibald Allen was born Abt. 1697 in King George, VA, and died December 31, 1758.He married Penlope Skinner on December 28, 1722 in King George Co., Va. Notes for Archibald Allen: Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots Archibald Allen In Virginia Name:Archibald ALLEN Cemetery:Magnolia Cem Location:Magnolia Twp, Putnam Co IL 81 Reference:Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, Vol.1, p.Serial:; Volume: The first entry in St. Paul's Parish Register, St. George co., Va. on him is a dau Anne Allen, dau. of Archibald and Sarah, b. 17 Dec. 1717, and so on. The Wives of Archibald ALLEN of King George ALLEN,DODD,STEWART,MARDERS,JONES,SETTLE,HUDSON In his will of 31 Dec 1758, Archibald ALLEN of King George Seems to have named his entire family. His wife was Elizabeth. His children were as follows: 1. John ALLEN 2. Sarah DODD (believed to be the wife of Nathaniel DODD of Fauquier) 3. Jane STEWART (wife of James STEWART of Fauquier) 4. unnamed (deceased ?) daughter, wife of David JONES 5. Mary (STAMPS) ALLEN, widow of James ALLEN (d. 1758, Culpeper) 6. William ALLEN 7. Ann ALLEN 8. Martha MARDERS (probably wife of Samuel MARDERS, wit. to the will) 9. Elizabeth ALLEN Archibald's will was probated 3 Jun 1762. Executors named were son William and wife Elizabeth. The St. Paul's Parish registry gives some interesting entries: Anne ALLEN, dau of Archibald and Sarah, b. 17 Dec 1717. Mary ALLEN, dau of Archibald and Sarah, b. 2 Oct 1721 Sarah ALLEN, d. 12 Nov 1721. Archibald ALLEN m. Penelope SKINNER 26 Dec 1722. Penelope was the widow of Peter SKINNER of Westmoreland. Assuming this is the same Archibald (and there is little doubt to the contrary), there were three wives: Sarah, Penelope, and Elizabeth. Unfortunately, the birth order of the children is undetermined. Daughter Mary was likely the spouse of David JONES. There is yet another will of interest in King George. The 9 Dec 1750 will of Sarah SETTLE was probated 2 Jan 1755. In this she names her son William HUDSON, daughter Lucy HUDSON, and grandson William ALLEN. Lucy was to receive rent from the plantation where Archibald ALLEN resides. Lucy HUDSON and William ALLEN were the executors and a witness to the will was Elizabeth ALLEN. William and Lucy appear to be siblings. A possible deduction from this will is that one of Archibald's wives may have been a HUDSON. Elizabeth, the third wife, was not named as a daughter of Sarah HUDSON-SETTLE, so it appears Elizabeth wasn't a HUDSON. The first wife, Sarah, would seem a strong possibility. Some researchers seem to have concluded that the Archibald ALLEN who married Abigail RHODES and resided in Prince William was the son of Archibald ALLEN of King George. Though it would seem probable, I can find nothing to support that conclusion. It seems possible this Archibald could be a nephew to Archibald ALLEN of King George. I would be very appreciative of any input or additions to this.
