Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee.Private 7/4/1861. He
was captured at Wilderness, VA 05/04/1864. and was releasedat
Elmira, NY 07/07/1865.Verified through the Roster of Confederate Soldiers of Georgia

U. H. Layfield was one of 3 members of a committee which requested permission
to build what became the Chipley Methodist Church. Permission was granted
at the Quarterly Conference held on April 16. 1897. ( from the History of
