William Henry Bell (b. May 30, 1843, d. 1927)
Notes for William Henry Bell:
William Henry mismanaged, and finally lost, his inheritance. For many years he was a traveling peddler, driving his wagon of housewares throughout the countryside-a rolling
five and dime store.
He told his grandchildren of his many experiences as a soldier in the Civil War. He was a flag bearer as well as a water boy who helped the cook. Rations were in such short
supply that he spoke if sneaking behind enemy lines at night to steal from the neighboring
farm houses. He had to walk back to Georgia like so many others. He served in Captain Brooks' Company, Terrell Georgia Light Artillery. He was released April 26, 1865.
According Mary Nell Boling's book: After the Civil War, William Bell was a farmer, and he and his mother operated Bell's Mill located on Lanahassee Creek in Webster County, Ga near the Marion County line.
After his wife's early death he lived with his children.
