Sam Welch had a professor in college who placed an S in Sam's name because that was the correct spelling in the Germany language. Sam was delighted with this spelling and spelled his name Welsch from that time forward.
Sam was a partner in the law firm of Morris and Welch 1932-1941. He was elected for 5 terms. Cobb County, 1935-38, 1941-44, 1947-48, He was electedtwice to the State Senate from the 39th District
1939-40 and 1945-46. He was elected to 5 terms as Mayor of Marietta.
He was Lt. Col. Aide de Camp Govenor Marvin Griffin's Staff, 1955-58. He was a charter member 1961
with Leading Mayors of the Nation.
He received from President Harry S. Truman the Selective Service Award as authorized by the U>S> Congress for faithful administration of the Selective Service System in Worl War II.
Her servedon Govenor Carl Sanders staff 1963-66. Then Govenor Lester Maddox's staff 1960-63.
