A special dedication to the "Bausell Women", who for many decades have been the researchers and gate keepers of the Family History, Religious Artifacts, Folklore, Photographs, and heirlooms of our family.
A few long lost (and found) relatives have also contributed to this database, so be sure to check the individual list under the notes section for contributors. We would like to thank those individuals for their research and willingness to share.
Other extensive surnames within this site besides Bausell (Bauswell, Boswell, Bausel), include O'Bryan (O'Brien, O'Brian, Bryant); Hewgley (Hugley, Hugueley); Drennan (Drennen, Drinnen, Drenon); Bybee; Knifong (Neufang); and Jones. In order to simplify matters we have used only one spelling.
Due to limited space, we have recently had to split off the Drennan, Knifong and Bybee surnames. If you don't find what you are looking for, please contact me at the email address on this page.
While compiling the many handwritten letters and documents our family has kept throughout the last century, we have discovered that there is much more information that still needs to be verified and documented. This continues to be a work in progress as new facts are discovered during research and investigation. Much of the information contained within this database does not have absolutely verifiable source documentation and is provided in good faith and to the best of our knowledge.Any sources are documented in the notes section of each individual. We gladly welcome all questions, suggestions, corrections and comments.
*** I would like to thank Gene and Neta Thrailkill for sharing their photograph of James Calvin Palmer and wife Elizabeth O'Bryan.
*** I would also like to thank Greta Rassel for her photo of Monie Bausell also recently added to the Family Photo section of our webpage.
*** A major correction and new photos have been added to our webpage and Family Photos section courtesy of Edwin Lee and Ruby Davis Bausell. Our many thanks for their contributions to this missing link of the John Calvin > John Thurman lineage.
*** A newly found cousin has joined our forces. Her grandmother (Rose Zetta O'Bryan Hodges) was a sister to our matriarch Mary Effie O'Bryan Bausell. We welcome Janette Connor Tullock to our research team. After meeting face to face and sharing research, we have discovered that some of our O'Bryan information wasactually researched by Janette and given to prior generation members (part of our handwritten notes).
We would also like to thank another cousin, Olin C. "Jack" Smith of Cross Timbers, Hickory County, MO. for coordinating our introduction and meeting with Janette.Jack and his wife Jackie hosted a tour of our family's home town over the course of a 3 day visit to Cross Timbers in May of 2005.Jack took us to all the family gravesites (approx 20), and the schoolhouses and shared many of his recollections of our family roots in Cross Timbers. My most treasured moment was when we found the grave of our great- great-grandmother Lucy Jane Jones Hewgley, born June 30, 1834, died July 27, 1854. After cleaning the hand chisled tombstone with a wire brush, the inscription was actually legible:
To the memory of Lucy Jane Jones
wife of Hiram Hewgley
