| This site is intended to be a culmination of my Poyner family research, but I hope it becomes a useful tool for anyone who is |
interested in Poyner genealogy. I am currently trying to connect my ancestor, Benjamin Poyner( born abt. 1796), with the branch of Poyners from Currituck County, North Carolina.
It seems Benjamin and his siblings moved to Rowan County, North Carolina prior to 1805. I believe his siblings were Peter Poyner (moved to Henry Co. TN), Nancy Poyner, & Dorothy Poyner (marr. Gideon Gibson).
The earliest record I have on him is his Marriage Bond to Polley (Mary) Athan in Rowan County NC on March 10, 1825. He then shows up on the 1830 Census for Surry County, NC (next to a Horatio Athon). He then appears on the 1840 census & 1850 Census for Putnam County, Indiana with his wife Mary and Children; John, Asbury, Sylvester, James, Joshua, Alexander, and Henry. His oldest son, Silas, is living in the home of Andrew Sigler and his daughter, Rebecca, is living at home with her husband Henry Shephard. I can find no record of Benjamin after 1853.
Silas, Rebecca, and Mary (Polley?) list their place of birth as North Carolina.
Feel free to look around, and please do not hesitate to email me corrections and/or Poyner related info! Thanks
