JOHNSON-JENSON-JOHNSTON
James D. Johnson, along with several other families, Yeagers, Hughes', Buckleys, to name a few, came from Bath Co., VA to Jackson Co., OH in the fall of 1817 and settled in what is now Franklin Twp..He was the son of John Johnson and wife.James married Elizabeth Hughes on Nov. 24, 1795.Their children were John born Aug. 11, 1801, married Elizabeth Yeager born April 1, 1799 on March 15, 1820.He died Dec. 13, 1895 and she March 13, 1863.Children of John and Elizabeth: James, killed in Civil War; Frnacindi, married Harvey Radabaugh; Mahala, married Finley McNeal; Elizabeth married a Cline; William and Henry (twins) who both fought in the Civil War; John married Julia Faulkner and went to Kansas in 1877; Gabriel G. married Rebecca McNeal daughter of Thomas McNeal; Sarah married James Whitt; Syrelda married a Lloyd; Marion died in infancy.
Children of James D. and Elizabeth Hughes Johnson other than John named above were William, James (Capt.) Thomas, Milburn, Anna, Elizabeth and Nancy.James D. married second Sarah Burnsides Beatty and had children: Robert, Isabel and Alexander.
An act of the Virginia assembly, passed December 14, 1790, created Bath County from the counties of Augusta, Botetourt and Greenbrier.Bath County was formed in 1791.The county seat is Warm Springs, Virginia.

1829: Deed-Harrison Co WV Microfilm roll #0843831 WV Deeds. The following is indexed as: John Beatty's estate to Hugh Kelso, book 20 page 17&18. Johnson to Hugh Kelso
This indenture made the tenth day of October in the year 1829 between Hough (Hugh) Kelso of the county of Preston and state of Virginia of the one part and James Johnson and Sarah his wife, Nathan Woten and Betsy his wife, and Joel Martin and Sarah his wife, heirs of John Beaty, deceased of the county of Jackson and state of Ohio of the other part. Witnessed, that the said James Johnson and Sarah, his wife, for and in consideration of the sum of $36 current money of the USA to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, forever acquit, discharge said Hough Kelso, his heirs, executors and administrators have bargained, granted, sold and quit claim to the said Hough Kelso his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing 200 acres of survey bearing date the 2nd March 1798. Lying and being in the county of Harrison on the waters of Simpson's Creek and bounded as follows, to wit; Beginning at a chestnut tree, Jonathan's Stout's corner and running thence N 47 E 81 poles to a black oak N 57 W 128 poles to a dogwood N 39 W 184 poles to a poplar S 30 W 84 poles to a White oak S 3 W 126 poles to a white oak S 65 E 209 poles to the beginning. And all the estate, right, tile and increase, claim and demand of them the said James Johnson and Sarah, his wife, Nathan Wotten and Betsy his wife, and Joel Martin and Sarah his wife. of in and to the premises have bargained, granted, sold and quit claimed of and together with all and singular the rights, privileges and appurtenances. To have and to hold the aforesaid premises being sold and quit claim with the appurtenances to the only proper use, benefit and behoof of the said Hough Kelso his heirs and assigns forever.
In witness whereof the said James Johnson together with Sarah his wife, and Nathan Wotten together with Betsy his wife, and Joel Martin together with Susan his wife who hereby relinquish their right of dower to aforesaid premise and have hereunto set their hand and seal the day and year above written.

Guilland and Thomas Dougherty two acting justices of the peace in and for said county and state aforesaid, the within mentioned Sarah Johnson wife of the within mention James Johnson, and Betsy Wotten wife of the within mentioned Nathan Wotten, and Sarah Martin wife of the within mentioned Joe Martin, who being by us examined separate and apart from their husbands, who acknowledge that they without fear or coercion of their husbands freely relinquished their rights of dower to the premise within mentioned and respectively decree the same may be admitted to record under our hand and seal this 20th day of October 1829.

James and Sarah Johnson - and her two children by John Beaty, Betsy and Sarah were given the sum of $36 to them in hand paid the receipt whereof they do forever acquit or discharge the said Hough Kelso, his heirs, etc and Kelso now owns 200 acres of land surveyed 2 March 1798. Text: In the name of God, amen, this eleventh day of November, one thousand eight hundred six, I John Beaty of the county of Harrison and state of Virginia, being weak in body, but of sound in mind and memory, do make, and aim this to be my last will and testament, in the following maner that is to say Lord I command my soul to the almighty God, and my body to the earth to be decently buried, and everything my worldly estate, I dispose in the following manner. I give to Sarah my loving wife all my personal property of any kind, except whathogs may be lef after the meal for the family this insuing winter, which legancy I give her for her and her child for maintance and support and in life the one third of my land or dower there in. The remainderof the hogs to be sold to help pay my debts. I also direct my
executors to make sale of land as soon as possible and with the price arising there from to pay all my just debts and do here by authorize my executors or any one of them to make a deed of conveyance to the purchaser in fee simpler and after all my debts are justly paid I require the balance to be equally divided between my wife and surviving children. I do hereby appoint and constitute my wife, Sarah Beaty and her father, John Burnsides my one and complete executors of this my last will and testament. Being all farmer wills and bequeths by me made and declaring this to be my last will and testament, wherefore I have hence to set my hand seal, this day ___above written, signed, sealed testament by John Beaty to be this last will and testament.
