I have been searching for my maternal grandmothers family for about 20 years. My grandmoters name was Ducella Rita Stewart.Sometimes she used Catherine for her middle name. She was born August 2, 1900 in Nova Scotia Canada. Her parents last names were [Mother],Murphy[Father],Stewart. At that time Her father was a rich Scotsman and her mother was a poor Irish woman.Because of the social standards at that time their marriage did not work out so they got a divorce. Also, because of the times in which they lived, it was very hard for a divorced single woman to raise a child so her mother did the best thing she could think of and had her brother take my grandmother for a time. His name was Malon Murphy. In 1928 He lived in Nash Creek,New Brunswick, Canada according to a letter my grand mother recieved from a woman named Mary Doucett. For what ever reason Malorn and lucy Murphy could no longer care for my grandmother so Lucy made arrangements for 6 or 7 year old Ducella to be sent to live in Massachusetts with lucys sister Mary Doucett. From the moment her mother put her on that train bound for Massachusetts little did she Know that because of the long painful journey in life that my grandmother would have to endure this would be the last time she woud ever see her daughter again. My grandmother was so misused that she became very bitter toward the woman who put her on that train that day. She never wanted to see her again. | |
