Almoney was born in Harford Co, in 1817, and died in 1861. His wife was bo rn
in Baltimore Co, Md, in 1821 and died in 1884. They are buried at St. Paul' s
Church, Arcadia, Baltimore Co, MD. Jarrett and Mary Almoney were the parent s
of eight children, five of whom grew to maturity; Isabella, deceased; Alice,
wife of William Viers Bouie, an attorney at law of Rockville, Montgomery Co,
MD; Andrew B., the subject of this sketch; Frank, manager of the Rockville
Ad vocate. Mr. Jarrett Almoney was a son of Abraham Almoney, a native of
Harford Co, Md. He moved to Rockville, MD, when his son Andrew B. was only
four year s old.

Paul Burnett. Servi ces from his home on Tuesday Oct. 17 at 2:30pm Interment in Rockville Cem. Bal timore Sun Oct. 16, 1939 !OBIT: Rockville, MD Oct. 15. An apoplectic stroke w hich he suffered early yesterday caused the death in his home in Rockville ear ly today of Albert J. (Uncle Albert) Almoney 80, one time newspaper editor and publisher and for many years prominent in Democratic politics in the state an d county. The funeral will take place from the home at 2:30pm Tuesday with th e burial in the Rockville Union Cem. The Rev. Spence Dunbar, rector of Christ Episcopal Church, Rockville, will officiate. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Mary B. Almoney and Mrs. J. Paul Burnett both of Rockville. Mr. Almoney w as a lifelong resident of Rockville. For many years and until its publication was discontinued about ten years ago, he was editor and proprietor of the Mon tgomery Advocate, which was published at Rockville and which was one of the ol dest weekly newspapers in the State. He was formerly secretary of the Democra tic State Central Committee of Maryland and at one time was chairman of the De mocratic State Central Committee for Montgomery Co. Taught Many "The Ropes". Mr. Almoney was formerly chief clerk of the Maryland House of Delegates for ab out 27 years. He also served for four years as reading clerk of the State Sen ate. His thorough familiarity with legislative procedure made him invaluable to new Speakers of the House of Delegates, a large number of whom "learned the ropes" under his direction. For many years he was a member of the Rockville l odge of Masons. |
