When I was a teenager, I knew about both of my grandmothers and my grandfather on my mothers’ side but did not know anything about my grandfather on my fathers’ side. I asked my father about his father. I did not get an answer, from that point on I always wonder about my grandfather Kinne. It was not until after I married that I found out about genealogy. My Mother –In- Law introduce me to the world of genealogy seven years ago. I have learned how to go about researching names in the census, courthouses and graveyards. As I helped with her family history I became very interested in my own family history. I have tried for several years to find out about my grandfather. He was a mystery to me because he had died before I was born and my father did not seem to know much about him because his parents divorced when he was one and a half years old. I told my father I would find out about his father someday. His reapply was GOOD LUCK! My father has since passes away but I feel his spirit is with me as I have done my research. I have written to Oklahoma Vital Records many times on a death date I had gotten from my father’s Marine records which was always fruitless. My break came when I decided to look again at some cemetery records online and lo and behold there appear not only my grandfather cemetery records but my great grandmothers too. Immediately, I sent off for their death records and learned a lot of information that I needed. The information lead to census and marriage records online. Then, it leaded to the courthouse in Washington County, Arkansas where I have found my great grandmother’s parents marriage record. Also, I found probate records and marriage records of descending families. I have read the article in History of Washington County, Arkansas, about Reuben B. Burrows it tells of his children and his wives family history. The article states Ann Mary Burrows must have died young because in their research they could not find anything more on Ann Mary. One of the reasons they could not find Ann Mary was because her surname was spelled Burris, Buress, and Burrows. In some of the census records, I find her name spelled as Mary for the first name and Ann as the middle name. Also, the death record has her first name as Mary. So, perhaps as the researchers did not look at the variant ways of her name. Therefore, they assumed she died young. In the 1880 census, she is living next door to her brother John Wesley Burrows, with her first husband James Conley. Mary Ann or Ann Mary married a second time to my great grandfather, William Frank Kinne. This is how I became one of many researchers on the Burrows and Gilstrap families. As I climb the trees on the Burrows, Conley’s, Davis’, Gilstrap’s, Jones’, and Kinne’s I will update this web page. I would enjoy hearing from any of the related families and share stories of old.
