Terry L. Quick P.O. Box 385 4375 Wells st. Quinnesec,MI 49876 414-923-3330 | I am trying to contact any relatives I may have in Croatia that have a connection to my Grandfather Jure Cacic. He came to the United States in 1910 on the ship S.S.Majestic at the age of 16 years. When he arrived in this country he changed his name to George Quick. He would not say much about Croatia or why he left. On the ships manifest papers he listed his mother as Kata Cacic from Kalinovaca, Croatia. He also mentioned a brother named Nick and a sister. I do not know her name, but she was married to Martin Vlatkovic. My Grandfather traveled to this country with a man named Karlo Grzan from Velika Plana, Croatia. Karlo Grzan's wife was named Maria. They both listed on the ship manifest papers that they were coming here to see Martin Vlatkovic who lived in Kingston IL at the time. An interesting fact is that Karlo Grzan listed Martin Vlatkovic as his son in-law and my Grandfather Jure Cacic listed him as his brother in-law. He mentioned working in Texas, North Dakota, and Escanaba, MI before finally settling in Iron Mountain, MI in 1925. He arrived in the United States on Oct 6, 1910, applied for citizenship Oct 18, 1940, was married to Francis Maynard on Aug 15, 1921 and celebrated his 100th birthday on July 24, 1994 befour his death on Jan 6, 1995. The Villages of Kalinovaca and Velika Plana are located in the Licko Polje Valley near Mt Velebit. They are situated some 10-20 kilometers NW of Gospic which is 150 miles SW of Zagreb. Dragan Petkovic i Predrag Gjuro Kladaric, hvala vam najljepsa za informacije o lokaciji ovih sela. Bog i Hrvati For more information you may visit my web site at http://www.wp.com/croatia |
