Roque Jacinto (de) Cota (b. Abt. 1724, d. September 29, 1798)Roque Jacinto (de) Cota (son of Andres (De) Cota and Angela (de) Leon) was born Abt. 1724 in El Fuerte, Sinaloa, and died September 29, 1798 in Mission de San Fernando, Alta California, he was 74.He married Juana Maria Verdugo on Abt. 1755 in Loreto, Baja California Sur, daughter of Juan Diego Verdugo and Maria (Y)Ignacia De La Concepcion Carrillo.

Roque Jacinto de Cota: At San Gabriel by 4 November 1778; in escolta that escorted pobladores to founding of Pueblo de Los Angeles on 4 September 1781. He is the founder of the older Cota family in Alta California. Spanish-Mexican Families of Early California: 1769-1850 Volume I, pg. 119, 120
Roque Jacinto De Cota was born about 1724, at the Presidio of El Fuerte, Sinaloa, Mexico, to Andres de Cota (born about 1700) and Angela De Leon (born about 1705). About 1755, he married Juana Maria Verdugo who was born about 1743, the daughter of Juan Diego Verdugo and Maria Ygnacia Carrillo, at the Mission Loreto, Baja California, Mexico. She died on May 13, 1835, in Los Angeles, buried on May 14, 1835 at the Los Angeles Plaza Church, Alta California. He died on September 29, 1798, in San Fernando, and was bruied on September 30, 1798, at the Mission San Gabriel on November 4, 1798, and served as an military excort for the Pobladores, and founders of the Pueblo de Los Angeles on September 4, 1781.
A Spanish Soldado, he was in charge of the contingent of soldiers (escolta) which accompanied the settlers that founded the Pueblo de Los Angeles. He is considered a "poblador" (first settler) of Los Angles.
The garrison list for 20 May 1782 was prepared by Lt. Jose de Zuniga and was found in the Zoeth Skinner Eldridge Papers, MSS in Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley. It added the following names to the list of San Diego Soldiers during the American Revolution. Private: Roque Jacinto de Cota*
Antonio Cota and his brother Roque Jacinto Cota were part of the four-member escolta that accompanied the pobladores from Mission San Gabriel to the founding of El Pueblo de Los Angeles.
