|My first known ancestor is a Robert Rhodes born abt 1812 in NC who married Candis Queen Clark in 1837.Candis was born abt 1814 in NC.This Robert is found in the 1840, 1850 & 1860 Orange Co., NC census. In 1850 they were found with children Frances (f - age 12), William (m - age 10), Eliza (f - age 8), Teresa (f - age 4), and Alexander (m - age 2).In the 1860 census they were found with child Eliza (age 18), Benton (m - age 35), and Agnes (f - age 16).NOTE: have never been able to find anything else on this Benton or Agnes.Robert died abt 1863 in Orange Co., NC as I have copies of his estate papers. After Roberts death, Candis is found in the 1880 Nash Co., N.C. living with a daughter Unity age 28 and a son John age 18 who married Delia Ferrell and granddaughter Dover (child of Unity). They lived in the household next door to Robert and Candis daughter Eliza.I descend from Eliza who would be my g-great grandmother. Later in the 1902 voter registration it list a Jasper Rhodes age 50, J.L. Rhodes (John) age 39 and William Rhodes (My g-grandfather) age 36 all voted on the record of Bob Rhodes (Robert) Sr. I have found this Jasper in Nash County census and have information on his family but yet to figure how he fits into Robert and Candis family. |
I have never been able to determine who Robert's parents were but have always suspected it to be Robert Roades who married Frances Copley 1810 in Orange Co., NC.The only information I have been able to find on this Robert Roades is their marriage bond and a deed in Orange Co., NC where Robert bought land from Abraham Whitaker who was either Frances's sister's husband or husband's father in 1810.I would appreciate any information or leads anyone may be able to supply about any of these people in this matter and I will be glad to share any information I have on my Rhodes.
