|I am just beginning to research my father's ancestry. On his maternal side, he is descended from Hezekiah McCotter who married Dorcas Riggs sometime in the late 1700's.He fought in the Revolutionary War, though I have not found records to this effect, only a handwritten letter from my great grandmother, Sarah Elizabeth McCotter. Her father was Joseph McCotter ( 1804-1885 in Pamlico County, NC) and her mother, Joseph's second wife, was Mary Frances Carraway (1834-1874).Joseph had 2 children by his 1st marriage, Joseph and Priscilla, and 4 children by Mary Frances: Sarah Elizabeth 1856-1931) spouse John W. Sanders, Wiley Green McCotter (1858-1893), Charles McCotter (b 1862-? )spouse, Geanie Caroon and John McCotter (b 1870 - d ? ) spouse Gertrude Mills.|
John W. Sanders father was John W. Sanders(1823-1883)spouse Nancy Alexander (1833-1881).I am looking for their ancestors as
well as McCotter.Nancy was supposedly a Mann from Dare County North Carolina and somewhere the name Clark is in her lineage.John was supposedly in Onslow County, Tyrell County, Cartaret County (NC) as well as "up North somewhere" for a while. He returned to NC, married Nancy and although he opposed slavery, he fought in the Civil war becoming wounded and captured at Ft. Macon, NC.He achieved the rank of first lieutenant in the Artillery, Company H.
The Dail side is traced back as far as Elbert Melton Dail (1821-1893) who moved from Charleston, SC to Greene County, NC prior to the civil war and married Mary Elizabeth Turnage(1825-1899).Family records are in the family bible which, when whereabouts were last known, was in the possession of Blaney Speight of Greene County, NC).
I would appreciate any information on Dail's in Charleston, SC, McCotter, Mann, Clark, Speight and Sanders in North Carolina (or elsewhere if remotely associated with this lineage)
