I am looking for links to my and my husband's relatives. My most distant ancestor so far was James Riley who came to Texas under a Mexican land grant before the revolution (1837 or 38).His wife's name, (2nd wife), was Harriet Yarbourouh. He was apparently born in Georgia-but came to Texas from Illinois. My grandfather's wife was Effie Agnes Spears. Her father, George Spears came to Texas from Van Buren AK-where he'd killed a man caught cheating at cards. His wife's name was Sarah Williams. She was a widow and I don't know her maiden name. However, my dad says her father was a "sea captain from the Isle of Gurnsey."My great grandmother's (Riley) maiden name was Lydia Hill. My great-great grandmother was Nancy Cherry. Her father was Joel Cherry and they came to Texas in 1841. I will record their other children at a later date. Nancy had an older sister named Rebecca who married a man named John Sheppard. My grandmother Nancy's oldest son was named John and later changed his name to Sheppard. He had a daughter named Loreatha who married a man named Henry.
My mother's maiden name was Stone. Her father was Frank Stone and was born in Illinois.her mother was Minnie Olene Townsend. They were married in Clayton N.M. on Nov. 1, 1916.Minnie died when mama was young and she was raised by her aunt-Virginia Rebecca Townsend Hardin Hancock in Vernon, Texas.Frank's father was Decatur Stone and his mother was Alice Cook.Alice died in 1914 and is buried near Clayton NM.Minnie's father was named P. Townsend.
I would like to contact family of Mrs. Geraldine Henson, of Dallas, TX.Mrs. Henson's mother or grandmother was raised by Grandmother Nancy Riley.
I would also like to contact members of the family of James M.(Doc) Middleton. He was a rather colorful outlaw in Nebraska.Middleton was an alias. His name was James M. Riley and he was one of Nancy Cherry's children.
