| || Notes for DAUGHTER ESKRIDGE:|
Not in list of Mrs G. L. Eatman in Heritage of Lafayette Co., MS.
From Eskridge Family Association News May 2002:
From Westmoreland Couny, VA Wills:
Rust, Samuel will 1717/1718"The plantation where he now lives to Mr. Patrick Spence and his father-in-law Capt. George Eskridge"(suggests Patrick Spence is or was married to daughter of George Eskridge)
Pope, Lawrence will 1723 "Heirs: sons: Humphrey, Thomas, John
daughters: Elizabeth, Ann, Mary, Jemima Spence, Penelope, Catherine godson: John, son of Nicholas Minor
brother: Humphrey Pope
(suggests by 1723 a Spence is married to Jemima Pope)
Spence, Patrick will 1729/1730"Heirs: sons: Patrick, Youell
wife: Jemima (Pope)
dtrs: Elizabeth, Jemima, Mary"
(suggests Jemima Pope Spence survived her husband Patrick)
Spence, Jemima will 1755"Heirs: children: Elizabeth Sandford, Patrick Spence, Jemima Suggett, Youell
grandchildren: Jemima Suggett and Jemima Sandford
(Jemima, widow of Patrick, appears to be mother of all the children??)
"What this indicates to us is that there must have been a daughter who married a Patrick Spence, but which one?If it was the Patrick Spence whose will is dated 1729/1720, she must have been his first wife, as it is quite clear that this Patrick Spence (also?) married Jemima Pope.It is also pretty clear that this daughter was also dead at the time of Col. George's death and probably did not have any off-spring as neither is mentioned in Col. George's will."
