James Peden (b. Abt. 1828)
Notes for James Peden:
In Census materials James Peden is noted as having been born in Ireland, although it gives no indication as to which part. Since he got married in the Presbiterian Church, we can assume that he was a follower of this. Having made this assumption, it is quite possible that the area of Ireland where he was born was one of the six counties that make up, what is now, Northern Ireland. This was the area that was predominantly 'Protestant' at the time.
His father was another James Peden and His mother was Martha Brown. It is not known as to whether the parents had migrated to the Glasgow area, and had lived there for a time. The only way of finding this out is by looking at census returns for 1841 and 1851. If they had arrived in Scotland for any of these censuses, James, the younger, would have been about 13 or 23, depending on which census you are looking at.

Marriage Notes for James Peden and Jean McMillan:
The wedding James Peden and Jane McMillan took place on 23rd March 1860 at Regent Terrace in Glasgow. At the time of the marriage James Peden was a thiry-two year old railway porter living at 11b Green Street, Calton, Glasgow. Jane McMillan was a twnety-six year old works dryer living at 21 Greenhead, Calton, Glasgow. Their condition prior to the marriage was given as 'Bachelor' and 'Spinster'.
James Peden's parents were given as James Peden - Labourer (Deceased) and Martha Brown. Jane's parents were given as George McMilland - Mason and Jane Templeton (Deceased). The Bride's father was not shown as being deceased, although when her mother died in 1856 she was shown as being the widow of a mason. So we can assume that he was deceased at the time of the marriage.
Witnesses were given as William Peden (possible the groom's brother, and Robert Cullen. I have no idea who Robert Cullen is, as of yet.
