Sir William Douglas, 8th Earl of Douglas was born circa 1425.2
He was the son of James Douglas, 7th Earl of Douglas and Beatrice Sinclair.2,3 He married Margaret Douglas, daughter of Archibald Douglas, 5th Earl of Douglas and Lady Eupheme Graham, on 2 February 1449/50.2
He died on 22 February 1451/52 stabbed to death by the King, without issue.2
Sir William Douglas, 8th Earl of Douglas was invested as a Knight on 16 October 1430.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of the Kingdom between 1443 and 1449.2 He succeeded to the title of 8th Earl of Douglas [S., 1358] on 24 March 1443.2 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Earl of Avondale [S., c. 1437] on 24 March 1443.2 He held the office of Warden of the Marches between 1450 and 1452.2
