|I began genealogy when I joined the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) in October 1999.My grandmother, Nancy Wilson Myers, had belonged and had encouraged all four of her granddaughters to do the same. She gave each one of us copies of her papers that she used when she joined the NSDAR in IL way back during WWII.Of course, none of us had done this while she was still living, she passed away in January 1995. Now, I am addicted to genealogy, and of course, there is never a finished genealogy.|
I attempted to join the Mayflower Society, but I cannot prove mother of the female child, just her father's, so, I cannot proceed. So far, I have found 2 ancestors, Francis COOKE, and Mary CHILTON.More fun and games trying to locate all information required for acceptance to this society. Now, I have also unearthed more NSDAR patriots to work on.
My first cousin, Nancy, from IN, now in NV, has been researching the MYERS family.Over the years I have met new cousins, and with the ones I already know, we have been researching our combined families. One second cousin, once removed, Skip, who lives in IA, had been searching for our grgrandfather, John Valentine WALLACE. As of May, 2001, his father, and all aunts & uncles, with extended families have been found. This introduced me to another cousin, Bill from VA!Another second cousin, once removed, John from IN, has been researching the WILSON family.I have also reached another second cousin, twice removed in IL, Randy, who has spent many years researching the FONNER family. I also have met Nancy from TX that has done much work on the DAY family. There is Kathleen from IL that works on the STONEKING family.
I have been searching through family names from RI, most of which are my husband's, but not all of them. The names are: Roberts, changed in 1940 from Robert, Lessard, Hill, Benoit, Baker, Powers, and Alaire. During this quest, I came in contact with Eileen and her grandson, who are related through the ROBERT name.Wallace, Myers, Wilson, Day, Darling (who started in MA), Stoneking (who started in PA), Knowles, Nickell, Gibbs, Hopkins (who came from RI), Howe, Davis, Lipps, Stephens, Blake, van Horn, Quint, Cole, Dennery, Gillogly and Fonner are just a few of the names from my side of the family.
I have been in contact with many researchers and other genealogists and enjoy sharing info with all my "new cousins". I am always searching for new family names and kin.If anyone has any clues, or updated information, or needs research done in RI, PLEASE, feel free to email. THANKS!!!
