Notes for Zettie Lee Ann Stelter:
Back in the days when mom was having children, there were not washing machines.Laundry was done in a steel tubs and scrub board. There was one steel tub for washing and one for rinsing clothes..They had lived in an apartment that had community wash tubs.Whoever used them last was responsible for cleaning them out.Mom had done the wash and forgot to get dad to empty them before he went to work. When one of the ladies in the apartments started yelling about the dirty water in the wash tubs not being emptied, mom decided to empty them herself.First she got buckets and empties the water a little at a time. She got impatient and decided to pick up the tub and empty them to get through. The next day mom was walking to the post office with a friend when she started feeling bad.She had started her labor. She went on home, started feeling better, fixed supper but was still hurting. At 9 pm dad went and got Gladys, a friend of theirs to help them because mom was in pretty bad shape by that time. She had to call a taxi to take mom to hospital because the only transportation they had was a motor cycle.Zettie Lee was born at 4 am.The hospital personnel wouldn't let dad or Gladys in to see mom.Zettie Lee lived only 7 days.Moms mom had bought her a twin boys outfits.Mom, I think, used this to bury Zettie Lee.She is buried in Hitchcock Cemetary.
