Welcome to my little patch of web space.I went to law school to have something to fall back on until I write The Great American Novel. (Meaning I am a lawyer hoping to support myself and family on my writing someday.Meaning I'll be a lawyer til I drop.) Then, I caught this strange disease, genealogitis. But I don't want to be cured! I love to be obsessed! Please enable me by helping me to research the DUBOIS family in France, England, Barbados, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Missouri; the HARRIS family in Virginia, Maryland, Georgia and Alabama; the SLATON/SLAYDEN family in Virginia, Georgia, and Alabama, the STARK family in Maryland, Missouri, and Ireland; the FARRIS, THOMPSON, BITTINGER, WARFORD, and other families coming soon!Genealogical codependents welcome! Thorniest puzzle so far:the ancestry of my cats, Sumi, Chiarra, and Molly. The first two are from the Humane Society, and Molly was dropped off at the local Mobil station. They are fascinated with my research and long to know their roots. Next problem:JOHN DUBOIS, in SC c. 1696--where did he come from? And who is his wife, "Jane"? Then, there's JAMES KNOX STARK, b. 1839--why did he leave Maryland for Missouri?Did he serve in the Civil War?How and when did his father PETER STARK come to MD from Ireland? And how is it that his son Orville managed to come off the farm to collect garbage so that his daughter could be one of the few women graduates of the University of Missouri in 1913? And all of those HARRISes. . .Two cousins married each other, so we have two lines to trace, and there are arguments on the Web that their ancestors, JOHN HARRIS, and CAPTAIN THOMAS HARRIS, immigrants to Jamestown, are really not brothers. This issue is important to the Captain Thomas Harris folks, because they want to be descended from SIR WILLIAM HARRIS, too. And how many Methodists are there in this family, anyway? Am I the only black sheep in this family? The WARFORDS, FARRISES, THOMPSONS, and more, were pioneers in the Old West sense--some traveling with DANIEL BOONE through the Cumberland Gap.Was their westward migration really because of being kicked out of Baptist Meeting houses for unbecoming behavior? How did a coal miner see to it that his son receive a college education? Stay tuned! | Elizabeth DuBois Russo Home Page Updated September 11, 2000 |
