NEW ORLEANS GUMBO - LOUISIANA JAMBALAYA
The main ancestral branches included here all came to New Orleans and Louisiana at some time. Included are pest ship Germans (at the Cote des Allemands above New Orleans in 1721)with the names HEIDEL (also HAYDEL),FRIEDRICH (also FRIDERICH) & SCHAF (also SCHAAF), these lines have been updated with their German origins using information in the newly published book (1997) "German Coast Families, European Origins and Settlement in Colonial Louisiana", by Al Robichaux.RUSSELL, living at Russell's Neck, Sag Harbor, Long Island and who married into the LATHAM family, both families in New England before 1770;BURAS (BURA or BURAT) at Mobile, then to New Orleans and Plaquemines Parish; DAUTREUIL of Bordeaux(in New Orleans c1780), LELEU (now mostly LELEUX) in New Orleans c1750 and which families moved to St Martinville, LA and married into the Acadian culture there(including CORMIER & GUILBEAU) and have many descendants there today; the AUCOIN and LAURENT families of Acadian roots, the MARKS family of England and BOYD of Scotland. Important too the ENGLERT clan of Bavaria. And the DOSSAT and REICHERT lines of Haute-Pyrenees, France in New Orleans c1850; the O'DONNELLS, County Tipperary, also in New Orleans c1850. The ancestry of a William PAYNE, who was captured by Indians in Maine c1820, who made his way to New Orleans; also,the KEIR family of Glasgow coming to New Orleans c1847.
