This is a Web site dedicated to the research of the Russell family of Mahaska, Muscatine and Jasper Counties, Iowa; Highland County, Ohio and Buckingham/Cumberland Counties, Virginia. My search thus far goes back to William Russell of Virginia (b.1750) who's son Samuel (b.1805) emigrated to Highland County, Ohio in 1831 and his sons to Iowa in 1862. In Jasper County, Iowa the Russell's married and multiplied. George Washington Russell, son of Samuel, begat Don Brooke Russell, who begat George William Russell, who begat me. I was begatted in November, 1949.
I am also researching the Rosenberger family of Muscatine, Iowa. I have so far traced the lineage back to Cunz Rosenberger of Germany (b.149?)), who's Great Grandson Nathan Rosenberger (b.1853) emigrated to Muscatine in 1880. Emma Rosenberger was the daughter of Nathan and wife to Don Brooke Russell (above.)
The Dodson family of Pennsylvania I have followed from Alcynius Dodeson (b.1612) of Yorkshire, England to their settlement in Wisconsin in the 1850's: (Drs. Nathan and Benjamin Franklin Dodson of Berlin, Wisconsin) B. F. Russell married Elizabeth Sexton, who's daughter Elizabeth Grace Dodson married Ross Newman of Juda, Wisconsin. Ross and Elizabeth are the parents of Mary Louise Newman, my mother.
Some names of represented families:ABBOTT, ABRAMS, ADAMS, ALDER, ALSOP, ANDRZEJEWSKI, APPLEGATE, AYDELOTT, BALLINGER, BASS, BEALS, BIRGE, BOWMAN, BROOKE, BROWN, CAMP, COOPER, DAVIS, DILL, DODSON, FARLEY, GALEY, GOSSETT, HACKER, HARROLD, HIATT, HORN, HUNT, JOHNSON, KARLSEN, MCCLUNE, MCCLUNG, MILLS, MOBERLY, MONROE, MOORE, MORTIMER, MURPHY, NEWMAN, PRICE, PRIZER, RAWLINS, RICH, ROBBINS, RODRIGUEZ, ROSENBERGER, RUBY, RUSSELL, SEXTON, SMITH, STREET, TICKNER, VAIL, WELCHER, WILSON, WINTERS, WINTERSTEIN, ZURAWSKI.
Invaluable assistance has come from the previous research of Sue Newman of Iowa City, Iowa, Charles Farley (Dodson) of Nebraska and, especially, from Mary Louise Newman Russell of Tacoma, WA. Thanks to all of these Russell relatives for their generous time and efforts.
This is a 'Work in Progress'. Any and all research or hints you would like to contribute would be most welcome. I am particularly anxious to find any information on the lineage of Elizabeth Sarah Sexton Dodson (wife to B.F. Dodson) of Ireland and Wisconsin.
Please read the story of Abigail Dodson, kidnapped by the Wyandotte Indians in 1780; it's fascinating! And peruse the Family Tree (updated continuously), the "Russell Family Roots Book" and the Descendant Reports for the various families - you are probably a candidate for membership in the D.A.R. or the S.A.R. and may be related to John and John Quincy Adams!
Thanks to all of you who have made living as a member of the Russell, Rosenberger, Newman and Dodson families such an enjoyable adventure!
