I started researching my family history recently, and to my surprise, found out my Grandmother, Viola Bortz, had recorded alot of names and dates in a book that was handed down to my uncle, Robert Bortz and his wife when she died in 1994. She had also given a lot of names and information to my cousin, Kathy Krueger previous to her death. Thanks to my Grandma Bortz, I already have over a 100 people in my family tree. I am six generations deep and know the names of two of the boats that my ancestors came over from Germany on, and where their voyage originated from. Because of her vision and sharing of information with her family, I had a big advantage when starting my own information gathering. What grandma started is priceless to me. I hope some day what grandma and I put together collectively will be priceless to other members of my family.
