Bridgett's Anglican family came to Ireland from Wales in the 17th Century as servitors or settler/soldiers who were given land by the English to colonize Ireland. They were to stand to arms during any uprising by the Irish.
Under English authority, Bridgett's cousins became the Barons of Blayney Castle in Monaghan, Ireland. Their descendants have served with distinction as officers in the British Army for the past 350 years.
The family of Bridgett's husband Edmond had come from Kent, southeast of London, to become part of the English power structure in Ireland. His grandfather was the 8th Baron of Abergavenny. Bridgett and Edmond's descendants merged into the Anglo-Irish gentry.
Montgomeryshire, known to the Welsh as Powys, is in central Wales on the English border 60 miles west of Birmingham.
