Thomas Jefferson GOODE (son of Edward GOODE and Judith MORTON) was born Feb 12, 1760 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia, and died Dec 20, 1846 in Covington, Tipton Co., Tennessee.He married Sarah HAWKINS on Oct 17, 1779 in Spotsylvania Co., Virginia, daughter of Thomas Hawkins and Nacy Dycus. Notes for Thomas Jefferson GOODE: Thomas Goode applied for a pension in April 1818. He rendered the following service as: 1-26-1776 to 2-26-1778 , private in Captain Samuel Hopkins Company, Colonel Mordecia Buckner's 6th Virginia Regiment. Subsequently he served at various times in the Vir. Militia and was at the siege of York when Cornwall surrendered. 1780, 1st Militia Chesterfield Co., Virginia, Revolutionary War. Pension Certificate #14798 issued 9-22-1810 to Thomas Goode, $8 per month. Under Act of Congress, passed March 18, 1818, Jackson Tennessee agency . Jefferson County - Thomas Goode private annual allowance $96; Sums received $896.70. Description of service- Virginia Continental; placed on roll 9-22-1819. Commenced pension 4-16-1818. Age 74, transferred from Christian Co., Kentucky from 3-23-1825. Information is from: Department of Archives and History - (Revolutionary War Pensions) In 1776 Thomas Jefferson Goode enlisted in the Virginia Continental Line in the Revolutionary War. He and 2 of his brothers were notorious for their fast running quick action during the war, being used as scouts.Thomas was at Yorktown at the surrender of Cornwallis and was discharged as a private. Thomas was active in military service in later campaigns and in the 1840 census of Tipton Co., TN he is listed as Colonial Thomas Goode. He was a valuable sodier for his whereabouts were carfully kept in the National Archives.He applied for a pension in 1818 and in 1834 he had it transferred to Tipton Co. (now Covington Co.) TN. March 1824: only child mentioned was Joseph (Thomas J.) who resided in Jeffereson Co., Alabama as early as 1821. On the Revolutionary Pension list of 1820, on family tree maker CD 145 (indexed edition), persons on the pension roll under the law of March 18, 1818, Kenucky , pg 607, and pension roll of 1835, Vol. III Alabama. *Note: this information was taken from a sheet sent to me by a William's relative.
