| || Notes for MR. ROBERT RICE SEEBER:|
In July of 1926, Robert (Bob) was adopted from the Nebraska Foundling Home (now the Nebraska Children's Home Society) by Robert Harlan Seeber and Carrie Louise Seeber. These adoptive parents were wonderful to Bob and while he was always aware that he was adopted, he had no desire to seek his birth parents.
As time went on, however, and Bob had children and grandchildren, his feelings changed. He wrote asking the help of the above mentioned home to simply see if he could get any medical and ethnic history.Carrie Seeber died in 1987 and Robert Harlan in 1993.On his death bed, Robert Harlan told Bob that he was part American Indian. On his adoption paper, Bob noted that he had been given a name by his parent/s...Hilbert Grandsinger. He sent this information to the Home and eventually his case worker, Rebecca Crofoot, located his mother.Next a cousin was located who was willing to talk with Bob.Marvin Grandsinger, living in Texas, gave him more insight into his background and when Marvin was contacted by another cousin, Jack Davey, concerning a family reunion, he told Jack of Bob's existence. From there all the doors opened. At this writing, 6/25/97, Bob's family is looking forward to going to the reunion in Valentine, NE on July 12, 1997.
July 12, 1997 - On July 8, 1997, Bob became very ill requiring hospitalization. On his doctors advice, the family canceled plans to attend the reunion held today. It was a bitter disappointment to Bob and his family, but, of course, Bob's health took precedence.
The above episode proved to be non-life-threatening.But, our family is still intriged by our new relationships.Bob and Ottilie intend to travel to South Dakota in the near future.
August 4, 1997 - One day this past week, Bob was contacted by his double cousin, Leonard Gran.Leonard's father and Bob's birth father were brothers.Leonard's mother and Bob's birth mother were sisters.Leonard had known nothing of Bob's existance. His mother, Grace Gran, is elderly and she had not mentioned to him the visit by Jack and Sue Davey when she learned, for the first time about Bob.She also did not tell him of Bob's phone call, his letter or about the reunion on July 12th.Leonard was very disappointed that he missed attending.
