1.CHARLES WESLEY1 COSENS, SR. was born September 01, 1772 in Dorking, England, and died September 27, 1846 in Seaforth, Ontario. He married ANN GOODALL 1803 in Wield, Hants, England, daughter of EMANUEL GOODALL and MARY.She was born March 02, 1787 in Dorking, Hohnwood, England, and died April 03, 1853 in Seaforth, Ontario.
Notes for CHARLES WESLEY COSENS, SR.:
In April 1832, Charles emigrated to Upper Canada (Ontario) with his wife and children, his son-in-law William Tilt (who was married to daughter Jane), the 3 Tilt children, daughter-in-law Ann Miller (who was married to Charles Cosens, Jr.) from Redland Farm, Dorking, Surrey on the ship "Lord Melville" with the assistance of the Petworth Emigration Committee. The family intended to settle in Wilmot, but due to an outbreak of cholera, they settled instead on a farm 2 miles northof Preston (now Cambridge) in Waterloo Township, Ontario.(Preston was made part of the newly formed City of Cambridge, Ontario in 1973.) In 1834, Charles and Ann, with some of their children, moved to the Huron Tract and settled on Concession 3 of Tuckersmith Twp., Ontario. Some of Ann and Charles' descendents may still be there; others now live in almost all the provinces of Canada and in many of the United States.(see also notes on wife, Ann)
Turner's Cemetery (also called Turner's Churchyard Cemetery and Turner's United) is a small cemetery just north of Brucefield, Ontario. To get there, head north on Route 4 from Brucefield (which is at the intersection of Route 4 and Route 3, about 6 miles south of Clinton).Turn right at the first intersection (Roman Road).Proceed past the next intersection (Morrison Line Road). When the road forks to the left, take the left.At the point where you come to a little bridge, don't cross it; instead make a left and the cemetery is down the road a bit on the left, with a fence around it.When I visited (in August 2004), there was a grassy area where the church used to stand.

Notes for ANN GOODALL:
In some reports, notably the Petworth emigration lists and many notes on the internet message boards by descendents, Ann Goodall is called Ann Goodchild.Parish records in Wield, Hants, England reportedly show Ann's father's name as Emanuel Goodall (and her mother's name as Mary). The parish records also show a marriage date of 1805.
Her granddaughter, Elizabeth Sarah Tilt, in a brief family history reports Ann's last name as Goodall and lists her marriage date as 1803.

Marriage Notes for CHARLES COSENS and ANN GOODALL:
Harold Cosens of Gowanstown, Ontario, who apparently wrote a Cosens family history, puts the marriage date as 1805, which seems less likely than the one in my records, since his first child, Jane was born in August 1805.Moreover, marriage records from Wield, Hants England list a marriage between Charles Cosens and Ann Goodchild (with her father listed as Emmanuel Goodall) in 1803.
