I am researching my father's family. His name was Jose Maria Servin Alvarez, born in Ayo El Chico (Ayotlan) Jalisco, in 1896. His parents were: Anastasio Servin Amesola, born in 1859 and Eulalia Alvarez Acevez, born in 1866. His paternal grandparents were Jose Maria Servin and Paula Amesola. Maternal grandparents were Ladislao Alvarez and Paula Acevez. I believe all from the same geographical area, around Arandas, Jalisco.
My known close relatives-brothers- live in the Santa Clara,California and first cousins in Guadalajara, Mexico areas respectively.
Out of curiousity, I would appreciate any information as to why the Servin name is so wide spread geographically, (Sweden, North Eastern U.S.,France, Italy,Mexico, and surprisigly, not Spain. A friend has an interesting theory about it migrating to Sweden with Bernardotte's soldiers, but no evidence. In our case, there is no family memory of being anything other than Mexican.
May 2002 update:My ggggrandparents; Joseph Andres Servin de la Mora and Phelipa Rodriguez were married in Salamanca, Guanajuato on September 18, 1777. I sure would like any information on their ascendants and descendants some kind soul would provide.
