They were married in San Diego on April 29, 1939 by Reverend Mahood and were witnessed by Mr. and Mrs. James Fred Dacy, his sister and brother-in-law, and Mr. and Mrs. David Evans Price, her sister and brother-in-law. Mr. Wetherbee was born in Estancia, New Mexico and lived in and around Burlington, Kansas before coming to San Diego in 1935. After his marraige, Mr. Wetherbee became active in the Boy Scouts of America for Troop No. 967. He was of the Order of the Arrow and received patches for hiking all the High Sierra trials. He was also active in Asbury Methodist Church where this troop was chartered. On April 10, 1976, Mr. Wetherbee retired from National Steel and Ship Building Company where he was a shipwright. Mrs. Wetherbee is a native of San Diego where she attended local San Diego schools and graduated from San Diego High School. After their marraige and the birth of their two daughters, she became active in the Parent Teacher's Association(P.T.A.) and eventually became president of the P.T.A. Notes for THOMAS EDGAR ASBILL: Obit for Thomas Asbill: MASON - Thomas Edgar Asbill was born July 2, 1905, in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas, to Joseph Washington and Louisa Elizabeth Wilburn Asbill. He died in Mason, Texas, on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at the age of 96 years. In 1937, he married Olivia See Scarborough in Grape Creek, Texas, on Christmas Day. One of his favorite stories was that he "didn’t get married until he found someone who could make cornbread better than he." Tom and Olivia were the parents of five boys and one girl. After 64 years of marriage, Olivia preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2002, by 42 days. Two of the children, James Aubrey and Baby Ray also preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons, Sandy Asbill and Shirley of Tiger, Ga., Jack Asbill and Dorothy of Mason and Vernon Asbill and Kate of Carlsbad, N.M.; one daughter, Mary Ruth Roger and Tommy of Kremlin, Okla.; and two sisters, Mary Rose Baker of Grape Creek and Martha Robinson of San Saba, Texas. Also surviving "Tom Tom" are his six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was an active and loyal member of the Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher for many years. While living in Sterling City, Texas, he served as Justice of the Peace and as chaplain of the Volunteer Fire Department, receiving a service award for 26 years of dedicated service. In 1994, he received a plaque commemorating his 24 years of service to the Fort Concho Water Utilities Association. He was honored as the Citizen of the Year of Sterling City in 1983. Tom served his country in the Fifth Cavalry, First Brigade Headquarters Troop in Fort Clark, Texas, once riding with his unit on Alex, his horse, from Bracketville to El Paso, Texas. Tom was a resident of Sterling City for 38 years before moving to Mason in 1994. He loved life and will be remembered for his tenderhearted and generous spirit tempered with a sprinkle of mischievousness and wit. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the First United Methodist Church in Mason. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Grape Creek Cemetery.
