Robert J. Plattb.1-1-1919 Yorkville, N.Y. d. 7-17-2003 DeLand, FL. A New Year’s Day baby for Alfred Shires Platt and Isabel C. Hiller. Bob grew up in the Utica area completing High School and Business College before enlisting in the Army at the start of WWII. He was involved in most of the main battle theaters of the European Campaigns in France, Belgium and Germany, receiving many service decorations. He decided to make the service a career at the end of the war. He later served in the Far East, Alaska, Italy, as well as several US posts. He retired as a Major in 1963. He then began a second career as purchasing agent for Westvaco in Wilmington and retired from that in the mid 1980’s.Not ready for full retirement he oversaw the running of the Box Outlet a shipping container provider for several years. Bob was a gifted artist and wood carver of ducks mainly. He also enjoyed his golf games very much. After his wife past away he moved to DeLand, FL. To be near his daughter Sandy and play golf year around. Jane Kathryn Schellb. 12-28-1922 Wilmington, Del. d. 12-19-1990 Wilmington, Del. Jane was a delayed Christmas gift to Charles Fredrick Schell and Thelma May Raudman. Jane grew up and graduated in Wilmington and made that her home for life except for a few years while in Alaska, Italy, and GA. When Bob was stationed in those areas. Jane worked in a Doctors office for many years as well as raising her daughter Sandra Lee and son Bruce Charles. Jane enjoyed antiquing and collecting items as well as doing different crafts. The Platt’s came from Crompton, Lancashire, England in 1882 to New York Mills, N.Y. This was Robert Platt and his wife Mary Bastow who were married in Oldham, England on Sept 12, 1858. Robert’s father was Benjamin Platt married to Anna Standering both of England both born around 1810 and married about 1830. Their son James Platt married Kate Shires on Jan 1, 1885 in New Hartford, N.Y. Kate was also born in Rawdon, York, England in 1863. Her father was Alfred Shires of Rawdon married to Susanna Fowler in 1860 in York, England. He brought his family over in 1881. Their sonAlfred Platt married Isabel Hiller on July 15, 1916 in New York Mills, NY. She was the daughter of Charles F. Hiller who came over from Germany in 1881 and married Sarah Bellinger in 1881 in New York Mills, NY. Alfred and Isabel had 2 sons Alfred Jr. in 1917 who married Shirley Rose Lomax and Robert J. in 1919 who married Jane K. Schell. Sarah Bellinger's 2nd & 3rd great grandfather's John Bellinger Jr. & his father Johannes fought and were killed in the American Revelution on Aug.6, 1777 in the Battle of Oriskany. The Schell’s came from Hanover, Germany in early 1860’s as William F. Schellemarried Mary Unk. last name from LA. about 1865 in Harrisburg, PA. Their son William Fredrick Schell married Christine Metilda Huber in 1892 in Wilmington, Del. Her father Jacob Huber in 1880 Census shows he was born in Baden Germany in 1850 coming over here before 1873 when he married his wife Caroline Unk. last name from PA. Christine is listed as Lillie and born in 1874. They had 2 sons,William E. J. in 1893, and Charles F. in 1896.Their son Charles Fredrick Schell married Thelma May Raudman in Wilmington in 1922 Thelma’s father was George W. Raudman from PA. Who had married KathrynLouise Moyer in 1900 in Barnesville, PA. And moved to Wilmington that year. Charles and Thelma had 2 daughters, Jane Kathryn Schell in 1922 who married Robert J. Platt and Ann Eleanor Schell who married Russell J. Dowling. I have been researching my wife's( Sandra Lee Platt ) parents family lines for several years.Through the US and British Census, L.D.S. Family Search Records, Ancestry.com, Del. State Vital records in Dover, Del.,along with older family interviews, photo’s, and obituaries most of this was put together.
