Spurlin was born in Tennessee August 14, 1833.He was reared in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and moved to Texas when a very young man.He professed religion 1849 and joined the Baptist Church.He afterward joined the Methodist Protestant Church; he then ___________the MEChurch, South; was a charter member of the Church organized in Brookhaave in 1873.He remained a consistent member of this society until his death, which occurred May 7, 1899.He was married to Lucretia Moore in March, 1861.They lived happily together unil 1863, when she died.Two children were born to them, both dying in infancy.In 1865 he was married to Mary Crow, who is at present a member of the M.E. Church, South, and indeed a true mother in Israel.She with nine children mourn his loss.Bro. Spurlin was agood man and his children are following in his footsteps, all except one being members of the Church.May God heal the broken-hearted and comfort the bereaved.Bro. Cooper, (believed to be in Morgan County, IL)and fathered 3 children: Mary Jane, James D., and Alice H.The family then continued on to Hickory County MO, where he met up with brother John C.Later they both moved on to Texas.
