The LemayAnd Slawter (Slaughter) Families of Ohio and W VaUpdated August 3, 2010
|Doreen Grace (Lemay) Slawter|
|My family tree consists of The Lemays of Toledo,Ohio. The Lemay line goes back to Pierre Lemay who entered Virginia from France about 1700. I could sit here and waste my time and yours by listing the tree, but I have another site that has that and more. You will find it at " http://www.maxpages.com/lemay" It has the tree, a story, and pictures.|
Our family consists of the Lemay, Massey, Trester, Swartzlander and Smith families. The Lemays came from Virginia. The Masseys came from Tennessee. The Swartzlanders and Smiths come from Pennsylvania.
William Henry Harrison Massey married Jamima Jane Trester. In 1887 they had a daughter Gracie(Grace, she hated Gracie) Viola. In 1903 Grace married Riley Elsworth Lemay. In 1904 they had Raymond Vandellia. He married Laura Rittinghouse and they had five girls and two boys(six are still living). Then Raymond married Doris Marie Swartzlander Worden. Doris with her first husband James Worden had one boy and one girl. The girl died in late October 2001. Raymond and Doris had four boys and one girl.
Doris is the daughter of David Fredrick Swartzlander and Beluah Marcella Smith.
This is the story of my exsistance. I am the one girl from Raymond and Doris. I married into the Slawter family of Toledo. They came from W.Virginia.The name was changed from Slaughter. This family includes the Colombo Family from Canton Ohio. My husbands grandfather came from Italy.
We have a combined Family Picnic in August. We are going on our eighth annual picnic. It started as a picnic for my husbands family in 2000 and has grown from a few to almost one hundred. We have a good time and raise money for the next picnic by having an auction of items brought in by family members. We have themes for the picnics now. We had "Red, White, and Blue", "Hawian Luau", and "Christmas in August" to try to make it fun for everybody.Everyone has a great time. We keep trying to find new family members to come. We find distant cousins and other family members who show up. Some call it a reunion but it is a picnic. One year maybe our theme will be "Genealogy" and do a study of the family. We ask members if they have something they want to do or try. We decorate for each theme.
Here it is 2010 and we are planning our next picnic. This year everyone will choose their favorite sports team and wear team colors. The decorations will be different sports teams pictures.
We have done the halloween theme and the kids had a great time. I am putting together a large family tree together to display along with pictures of family members, those who are with us and those we have lost. Most people want to do the Luau again. It may be cold outside but we are planning for the warmer weather.
