The Slayton family came to Texas from various parts of the country.Many setted in East Texas in and near the following counties:Titus, Franklin, Upshur, Camp, Marion, and Red River.
Sanford G. Slayton became a citizen of the Republic of Texas in 1839.He received a class 3 land grant of 640 acres in the Red River District of Texas--near Jefferson, Texas.The 1850 Census state that he and his wife Mary came from Virginia originally, but were a part of the migration of Tennesseans to Texas in the 1830's.Sanford G. Slayton had 6 children:William F., b. 1835; Margaret Virginia (Donagy), b. 1840; Charles Edward, b. 1842; Augusta Catherina (Ferguson), b. 1844; Lucie C. (Lawrence), b. 1848; and Eugenia Slayton (Davies), b. 1851.Their descendents are scattered throughout East Texas.
