state that there ws a great flow of immigrants into Kentucky in the

Some interesting medieval history is revived as the Maynard generation is
traced back to the conquest of England by William the Conqueror. In the
900's the Viking or Norsemen invaded France and settled in what is now
known as Normandy. Then in the year 1066, William, Duke of Normandy
crossed the English Channel with a strong army and conquered England at
the battle of Hastings and soon afterwards ordered a census taken of all
England which was recorded in the famous Domesday Book. Winnifred and
Madge Maynard, Descendants of ChristopherColumbus Maynard, brother to
our oldest known ancestor, James Maynard made atrip to England about
1951 and found the domesday Book, or an official copy of same, where the
Maynards came into England with William the Conqueror. OurMaynards,
especially the older set, have the bold rugged features of the Norsemen
or Vikings. The Maynard family, originally written Mainard, Maignard in
old English and Mainor, Maner and finally, Maynard in America. It is
thought, and tradition says, that three Maynard brothers came from
England to the colonies and this may be true as the names Henry, Thomas
and James occur in contemporary early records of that period and the
American Maynards may have descended from these three brothers. James,
Christopher Columbus, William and possibly Gibson Maynard were found
living in Wilks Co., NC near the time of the Revolutionary War. James
